2019 Board Candidate Puneet Saggar

I wish to submit my name and the following information for consideration as a candidate for Westgate HOA BOD. Puneet Saggar puneet@westgatetx.net

I have been proudly serving in neighborhood activities since 2014, Crime Watch Committee to begin with followed by serving on the board since Summer 2016. So many things in this neighborhood attracted me to be a part of the same and our property value being the topmost of my priority, looks as we drive around in our neighborhood and financially strong bank balance to upkeep with everything we got. So far, we achieved quite a few of these initiatives and still moving forward at consistent pace and want to contribute a bit more for continuous improvement.

The achievements so far in my opinion are:

  • Parks and playgrounds set up from a new playground to replacement of pre-existing, built to code parks.
  • Revamp of the big park area and establishing the exercise equipment along the walkway around the big park in certain spots.
  • Splash pad to increase water activity capacity for young age kids on top of the existing pool.
  • Security in the neighborhood by implementing the Deputy Contract.
  • Security in the big park area and pocket parks by addition of more lighting to uncover the dark areas.
  • Reserve fund set up to manage our financials and not hit by sudden losses.

Candidate Questions

  1. What do you think the HOA’s purpose is?
The basic purpose of HOA is to upkeep with the property and property values and constantly watch out for initiatives that assist in these goals.
  2. How have you participated in the Westgate Community?
I have been part of the Crime Watch Committee since April 2014 and was the secretary of the same and we used to meet regularly on a monthly basis and we achieved several mini goals to fit into the big picture.
  3. Describe any previous volunteer experiences and volunteer leadership roles.
Secretary of the Crime Watch Committee and was the Chair of the NNO for two (2) years in a row in 2015 and 2016.
  4. Are you willing to attend board meetings regularly and to sign for a HOA work commitment of a minimum of 10 hours per week?
Since summer 2016 I have attended all board meetings with exception to a meeting in June or July which I miss due to my personal vacations but even then, I submit all my answers from the agenda and supply them to property management company in writing prior to my departure. Answering emails on regular basis is what I see no issues with going into my re- election.
  5. Have you read our CCR’s and Bylaws? Highlight some areas of interest to you.
One CCR and ByLaw that particularly interested me was the inability of the Board to raise dues beyond a certain percentage of the existing dues. I think the capability of a board member is to foresee what is essential versus what is good to have. We can all think fancy items to have in our neighborhood but beyond a certain limit they don’t help in property values and pose challenges on their own related to upkeep. All this entails cost to be shared mutually by 1400+ homes we have. A board going bankrupt is the last thing we need and matured board members is supposed to be our first goal. The max. increase limit forces the board members to think outside the box and still achieve everything in the box. It’s a challenge to have and I personally love such challenges.
  6. Are you willing to enforce deed restrictions and other bylaws using our fine method or other means?
Deed restriction is one of the key items that assist in uniform looks of the neighborhood and maintains the property values to great extent. I am all for enforcing the same using fine method or other means as needed to bring all neighbors to the table of same rules.
  7. Are you willing to put your personal feelings aside to take action on items that would benefit the entire community even if it offends a friend or neighbor?
Our personal friendship has always taken backstage for me in this role I have been in and I see no issues going forward. It’s important to Westgate to win, even if individually speaking, we lose.
  8. Do you have any projects or priorities on which you wish to focus?
The recent acts of vandalism in my pool in Summer 2018 and beyond has taken due attention. It is one of my top priorities and monitoring the same to understand which aspect of neighborhood requires more attention is a concern the way I see it. Getting a handle on the same is necessary.
